It is impossible to talk on famous contemporary pieces such as chikurai gosho, eclipse, foodoh, november step etc. without enormous influence from Koten Honkyoku (classical, original way of playing Shakuhachi).
This is a rare opportunity of listning the renewed challenge of Shakuhachi classics to the domain of arts.   Yoshio Kurahashi, renowned master Shakuhachi Player who succeeds Jin-Nyodo Honkyoku tradition will present his new piece polished up with the classical techniques. Real Honkyoku pieces of Oushu tradition will be presented in completed new enviromental context.  In addition, Hideo Sekino and Shigeo Tachibana will present a series of compositions intermingling with improvisations based on Honkyoku mode. The compositions include a rare piece of 2.7 duet. This presentation becomes possible because of the occational visit of the master shakuhachi players to the Bay Area from Japan.
